Over-the-air Updates

Your AirSuite sensors keep themselves up-to-date automatically: here's how and why.

At a glance

All AirSuite™ devices are designed to enterprise security standards, capable of receiving over-the-air updates and guaranteed to receive routine security and maintenance patches for at least five years. This allows us to remotely manage your devices even after they’ve been deployed throughout the world. This is made possible through our use of brand new, high-bandwidth LTE Cat-M1 networks for IoT devices, like the Spark IoT network in New Zealand, and the Telstra IoT network in Australia.

Wherever you’re based, AirSuite can remotely manage your sensors so you can confidently and easily monitor the indoor air quality of your business, education facility or residential housing stock.

All AirSuite devices can receive over-the-air updates. This means as soon as you’ve installed your sensors, you can relax knowing you’ll get security and maintenance updates for at least five years, whether you’re in New Zealand, Australia or further afield.

How? This function is made possible through modern high-bandwidth LTE Cat-M1 networks for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. We can talk to your devices remotely thanks to this high performing, resilient, widespread, and reliable network. Examples of these networks are Spark’s IoT network in New Zealand and Australia’s Telstra IoT network.

The LTE Cat-M1 network is high-speed, and almost universally available for private consumers and commercial users alike. But critically, it enables AirSuite devices to operate in an ultra-low power mode, achieving multi-year battery life. While other IoT networks are low-power, they can’t deliver the high bandwidth required to perform over-the-air updates.

AirSuite Wi-Fi devices also receive all the same updates that the LTE devices do.

What this means for you: the benefits of over-the-air updates

  1. It’s convenient.

Remote updates mean you don’t have to do anything. That’s right: you don’t have to send your devices back or remember to switch things on or off. You will receive the latest software updates automatically.

  2. The features keep coming.

All AirSuite devices will automatically receive feature updates for at least three years.

  3. Security comes as standard.

We know that security is a major concern. That’s why we guarantee automatic security updates for five or more years.

  4. It’s flexible.

AirSuite sensors are rich in features. But sometimes we know you need a function that’s outside the box. We can deliver bespoke feature upgrades to your devices over-the-air too.

  5. Industry-leading tech.

Many of our competitors use the Sigfox network to achieve low battery consumption. But, unlike the network we use, restrictions to bandwidth and licensing means over-the-air updates can’t be delivered to devices through the Sigfox network.

  6. Access the best of both worlds: Low power AND high bandwidth.

With the same low power characteristics as Sigfox, the LTE Cat-M1 network can also meet the high bandwidth requirements needed to perform over-the-air updates.

  7. Built to last.

The Cat-M1 network enables the most energy-efficient connectivity – your AirSuite sensors require less battery power, so they last longer than other battery-powered IAQ monitoring devices.

When will my sensors receive updates?

We roll out updates regularly, usually to make under-the-hood improvements for reliability, battery life and performance. But if we’re about to roll out an update that changes the behaviour or functionality of your devices, we’ll let you know via our email newsletter in advance.

When a new update is applied to your device, you might notice it restart and display the “Initialising” screen for a moment, and then it will return to normal. This happens within about 30 seconds, so it won’t affect the data you’re collecting.

We usually apply updates outside standard business hours in your country. This means you won’t notice any downtime or disruption to your service.
